IMRaD report first draft
Electronic books vs. Paperback
Abstract
Previous research has shown that 75% of people prefer paperback books over electronic books. This study examined a total of 20 people where each was asked eight questions. The results were that more than half of the people surveyed preferred paperback books to electronic books. According to these findings, gender does not seem to be a factor.
Introduction
Research done on the preference of electronic books to paperback books has shown that the majority of people rather read a paperback book than an electronic book. This can really affect the sales of electronic books for many companies. Though paperback books are generally more expensive than electronic books people seem to enjoy being able to easily flip through the pages rather than using a tablet or laptop which some people do not own.
However, research on this study was last done in 2010 and since then technology has grown significantly. Although, the majority still seems to prefer paperback books to electronic books. In this current study it will show the research that was done to see why people prefer paperback over electronic.
Methods
Participants:
10 women and 10 men participated in this study. Not all participants were from the same year or age.
Observations:
This study group was picked at random. Each took a survey and responded to eight questions that were specifically designed to show why they chose what they chose. In the research it was clear that gender was not a factor that decided their preference. Though one’s major could be a factor for some.
Results
Table 1 shows that more than the majority has purchased an electronic book in the past but even so still prefers paperback books. Many of them have had to purchase electronic books for specific classes but not enough have needed to do that. In the study the information found that majors slightly factored in the decision making process but gender has no affect. Some only chose electronic books because they are cheaper.
Discussion
This study indicates that the majority of people will prefer paperback books to electronic books. The results are consistent with previous research studies done on this same topic. Many people find paperback books more accessible and easier to manage.
This study was conducted with a small number and could easily show different results if more people were involved.

Survey Questions
1. Are you female or male?
2. What year are you in?
3. Have you ever purchased an electronic book?
4. If so, do you prefer those to paperback books?
5. Does your major effect which you decide to purchase?
Research questions
1. Which is the smarter choice: electronic books or real books?
2. Which of the two is a better help aid?
My plan for my research is to ask fellow college students of all grades which they believe helped them out the best throughout their college experience.

Reflection on Remediation Asiignment
The purpose of my remediation assignment is so that I can better show my research with visual aids. I chose to do a power point, doing this it has allowed me add more information that was not in my original research paper. The power point has given me the opportunity to add more graphs and pictures that portray my research topic better and makes it easier to understand. My original research paper did not have enough sources which made it seem more like an opinion paper rather than a research paper. I chose to target my audience in the sense of the visual aids and colors i used in all my slides. The colors and pictures are supposed to portray my research topic well. If my topic is less dramatic and more upbeat I can not use dark colors on my slides or sad looking pictures. I also did not make the captions in my slides too long because it makes it look too long. Instead, I added the important parts that were needed and then i would explain it instead of cramming the slides with all the information. A research paper affords many facts and long paragraphs that in detail explain the point of your research. On the other hand, a media assignment affords more visual aids and very small captions on the slides. Because of these differences both were made up in the way they needed to be. You can not add links on a research paper or add videos or any type of visual aids but on power points those visual aids are what is needed to make the audience better comprehend what the topic is about. It allows the audience to grasp the information better.

Remediation of research paper
According to the two readings on remediation there are several ways to re-mediate my research paper. Remediation means blending the old with the new. A way to do that would be to make my research paper into a powerpoint.. I can make the letters large or put them in in different fonts to maybe fit the tone I am trying to portray from my research paper. Also a video would be another great example. Allow your research paper to come alive. The visual of the video allows the audience to understand the information from the research a lot easier than it would be to read it.

Research paper sources
For my research paper I have found a few sources that are going to help me clearly discuss my topic.
My topic and main question is: Cyber bullying and social media: How much does it really affect teenagers?
According to A deafening silence by Charlie Gills social media can ruin a person's life. He wrote about a young girl named Rehtaeh that was raped at the age of 15 and peers of hers took pictures of the incident and not only sent mass media text messages but also posted the pictures of her rape on popular social media sites. After the incident none of her peers let her live it down. This news did not only last a a day or two but for over a week. It was said that they spread the pictures for days to make her relive it. The toll and silence from her friends was too much for her and she later committed suicide.
In The too-much-information age by Melissa Nussbaum it points out different situations to show how big social media really is in teens lives. In one case a college professor learned that her students had first learned about sex through social media. They were exposed to pornography on these sites before they even actually learned about it at school. It has become so difficult to monitor what kids look at when they are on their smartphones or laptops. Because of social media teens are more prone to cyber bulling. Nowadays certain social media sites can make you anonymous which gives people more of a power to cyber bully others.
In Bullying on the pixel playground: Investigating risk factors of cyberbullying... In this text we learn that cyber bullying is a growing problem and it is due to the major impact that social media is in the lives of teens. Not only do they get bullied in school but kids are now able to be bullied at home when they are just with their family. Social media follows you everywhere you are at and it has only increased the amount of suicides of teens.

Brainstorm of Research Topic
Therapist/ Client confidentiality: How far can it go?
I understand that it is important to keep information between therapists and clients private but what happens when your client kills someone and you are the only one that knows? how much power should that really have over the law?

Joanna Mackay's "Organ Sales Will Save Lives"
The thesis that Joanna makes in her article is that "Lives should not be wasted; they should be saved." From her thesis you can easily tell what side she is on when it comes to organ donating. In order to support her thesis she uses a plentiful amount of facts that are there to show people the amount of deaths that are caused because there are just not enough donors. She uses emotional appeal and ethical appeal with her facts because she wants to grab people and make her audience rethink why they should also be for organ donating. A fact that she uses in her article is stating that "about 350,000 Americans suffer from end stage renal disease...kidney disorder so advanced...no miracle drug...only dialysis and kidney transplantation as only possible treatments." This is not only a great fact she uses but also like I said uses a little bit of emotional and ethical appeal to grab the audiences' attention to how easy it would be to save others lives'. The way she organizes this argumentative article is by providing sufficient background information of the issues and then going on to providing the reason as to why you should be a donor. In all argumentative pieces we are supposed to have a counter argument in the case that someone will argue their point. It is supposed to there to make your argument better.
Reflection on First Major Assisgnment
In this first assignment I learned that an info report is not the same as writing a normal essay. It's genre and set up is just different. Also, I learned the different forms of writing that are important in the Psychology field and what to expect if I were to actually be in this field in the future. When writing this, I already had the idea that Research writing was a big thing in Psychology and when I went through websites and asked experts in the field, my assumptions were right. Though I did learn that they can also write literature reviews which I did not really expect. At the beginning of this assignment I did not know how to write an info report even though we did read about it in class. The thing is, is that I have never written an info report in any English class so I did not have a feel or practice for it. I am not sure I can say I overcame this challenge because I still do not feel comfortable writing an info report. It was a little difficult for me to really grasp the concept of its form of writing. Though I am sure that in the future there will be opportunities to practice more writing them. Also it was difficult to set up an interview with a professor here at the university because many of them did not want to go through with the interview. It was weird to me that they did not want to do the interview because I did not feel like it was topic that would make them uncomfortable. So I had to then ask family members that have studied psychology and have gone through graduate school. Writing this report I learned that I really need to further myself as a writer. I am used to writing your typical argumentative papers and rhetorical essays so my forms of writing do not really vary. I am not really sure if I could find any strengths when writing this paper because I felt a little confused through the process but typically I feel like I am a strong writer. My downfall was just not being sure how to write this paper in a successful manner.

Info Report (First draft)
Psychology Writing
No matter what career path you choose, writing will always be
important. Now, there are some that writing will not be the main thing you have
to do all the time but having down the basics is pretty crucial. Writing does
not come with only one form but with a variety of forms. Depending on the field
you choose in the future determines not only the amount of writing you will do
but also the type of writing required.
In psychology writing,
research papers are not the only type of writing you are required to do. In order
to better understand the writing that is required in psychology I decided to
interview my cousin Natalie who is a psychology grad student. She explained to me
that in psychology there are many different types of writing, for example: reports,
lab reports, reviews, and literature reviews. The purpose of each is to help enhance
your ability to accurately summarize important information, be able to look at
different sources and determine between each the validity of them, and also to be
able to present your own findings in a research essay. Now, the importance of
these various types of writing are crucial to the psychology field because they
consist the building blocks to being successful in this field.
Revision is crucial in every essay you ever write. When it
comes to psychology writing there is much revision that is done according to my
one my aunts that is a former grad student in psychology. In the field of
psychology, experimenting is quite important because without it we would not
know all that we know today about humans. Do you think you do one experiment
and you’re done? No. In many cases you have to do continuous studies on that one
subject in order to be accurate. This is not only with labs but also with reports
and reviews. In each you must make sure that what you are writing about is
accurate and that you all your statements are valid and can be backed up with your
research. Collaboration is something that is also important in this subject
field. When trying to do different studies it can be easy to believe that your
hypothesis alone is right but it can easily cloud the actual facts. It is
important to discuss with others in order to be able to get the most accurate
information.
According to an article in Purdue Owl: Writing in Psychology,
we are explained the principles that are key to writing in this field. The following
of them are: using plain language, conciseness and clarity of language, evidence-based
reasoning, and APA format. Each of these are the keys to successful writing. From
this article we are also told the purpose of writing in this field, which are “describing,
explaining, and understanding concepts of from a standpoint of empirical
investigation.” These keys are special to writing in psychology because they
are what makes up each lab, review, report, etc., written. Also, we learn that the audience is not always
a straightforward thing. Many times when you are doing a writing assignment in
psychology the audience will be your instructor and at times it could also be your
peers. The audience is semi based on the type of writing you are doing and what
specifically you are writing/talking about.
So the basic building blocks of psychology are to describe,
explain, and understand. Without these key words you could struggle writing in
this field. As discussed in this report I feel like it is safe to say that when
you are writing in psychology you must make sure that you are factual and
accurate. There is no entertainment writing involved, just factual
informational reports and essays. It is your choice alone if you can see
yourself writing like this in the future. Writing is pretty important in this
field and knowing that is key to deciding on it as a future career.

Summary of Interview/ Analysis of sources
I am not able to at this time yet provide a summary of my interview with the instructor I chose becasue he has been very busy but let know that he was going to get back with me this week.
So I have a few sources that I chose to use on my paper. I found an article on Purdue Owl that explains writing in Psychology. It includes the writing principles that is involved in Psychology. Also, it discusses the types of writing that is involved in this field. Another source I have is the interview I am going to have with Dr. DeMarco, he is a professor at Louisville and is going to help me find out firsthand what it takes to write papers in Psychology.

Quotation Excercise
In my English 101 class last semester I had to write an argumentative essay. My topic for that paper was Hoodie Allen, a white rapper that many people called a "frat" rapper. My goal in the essay was to argue against all the critics that thought he should be classified under that category. In the essay I quoted some of the critics that would say negative things about him and the reasons they believed he belonged under that category. Their quotes helped my paper because it showed their emotion toward this artist and it gave me a way to argue my reasons for why I felt like they were wrong. I also had a second time where I quoted the artist himself. It was helpful for me to do that because it backed up my reasons as to why he was too good of an artist to be put under such a unworthy music category.

Assignment 1
The purpose of this assignment is to be able to inform freshman about a career that they may be interested when coming into college. Also, you are able to see for yourself what you can learn about writing in your intended field. In this assignment there are some challenges that you would not have when writing other papers. Those challenges would be having to interview two different people and having to analyze two academic and then two non-academic sources. Because of the things we have to do to complete this assignment we are able to learn the reasons as to why people write the way they do in the intended field. It will teach us the correct rhetorical situations to use when our time comes to write an essay in our field.

General Narrative analysis
In English 101, I had to write a general narrative on a discourse I was passionate about so I chose track and field. The purpose of this essay was not to discuss how this specific hobby changed our lives but how it shaped the people we became and our specific relationship to it. We also had to bring up a specific experience we had with this discourse. In my paper instead of solely talking about a big race I had or something; I broke down the race itself and that race would be the 400m. I spoke about the start, the middle, and the end. At the start, you have the gun go off which determines if you’ll be successful throughout the rest of the race. Next, you have the middle, at this time it is what I call the after the gun affect. Here you have to mentally break down the race and determine your position within the other runners. Lastly, you have the end of the race where you finally get to know if that hard work actually paid off. I decided to break it down this way because I felt like it allowed a visual for the audience reading the essay. I chose this topic to discuss because it is the one thing that I know so much about. Not only facts but personal experiences that make me feel like a pro when it comes to talking about it. It was easy being able to personally envision my paper because it is something I couldn’t forget even if I tried. There was no other discourse that I could have picked that would have given me more success.
