IMRaD report first draft
Electronic books vs. Paperback
Abstract
Previous research has shown that 75% of people prefer paperback books over electronic books. This study examined a total of 20 people where each was asked eight questions. The results were that more than half of the people surveyed preferred paperback books to electronic books. According to these findings, gender does not seem to be a factor.
Introduction
Research done on the preference of electronic books to paperback books has shown that the majority of people rather read a paperback book than an electronic book. This can really affect the sales of electronic books for many companies. Though paperback books are generally more expensive than electronic books people seem to enjoy being able to easily flip through the pages rather than using a tablet or laptop which some people do not own.
However, research on this study was last done in 2010 and since then technology has grown significantly. Although, the majority still seems to prefer paperback books to electronic books. In this current study it will show the research that was done to see why people prefer paperback over electronic.
Methods
Participants:
10 women and 10 men participated in this study. Not all participants were from the same year or age.
Observations:
This study group was picked at random. Each took a survey and responded to eight questions that were specifically designed to show why they chose what they chose. In the research it was clear that gender was not a factor that decided their preference. Though one’s major could be a factor for some.
Results
Table 1 shows that more than the majority has purchased an electronic book in the past but even so still prefers paperback books. Many of them have had to purchase electronic books for specific classes but not enough have needed to do that. In the study the information found that majors slightly factored in the decision making process but gender has no affect. Some only chose electronic books because they are cheaper.
Discussion
This study indicates that the majority of people will prefer paperback books to electronic books. The results are consistent with previous research studies done on this same topic. Many people find paperback books more accessible and easier to manage.
This study was conducted with a small number and could easily show different results if more people were involved.

Survey Questions
1. Are you female or male?
2. What year are you in?
3. Have you ever purchased an electronic book?
4. If so, do you prefer those to paperback books?
5. Does your major effect which you decide to purchase?
Research questions
1. Which is the smarter choice: electronic books or real books?
2. Which of the two is a better help aid?
My plan for my research is to ask fellow college students of all grades which they believe helped them out the best throughout their college experience.

Reflection on Remediation Asiignment
The purpose of my remediation assignment is so that I can better show my research with visual aids. I chose to do a power point, doing this it has allowed me add more information that was not in my original research paper. The power point has given me the opportunity to add more graphs and pictures that portray my research topic better and makes it easier to understand. My original research paper did not have enough sources which made it seem more like an opinion paper rather than a research paper. I chose to target my audience in the sense of the visual aids and colors i used in all my slides. The colors and pictures are supposed to portray my research topic well. If my topic is less dramatic and more upbeat I can not use dark colors on my slides or sad looking pictures. I also did not make the captions in my slides too long because it makes it look too long. Instead, I added the important parts that were needed and then i would explain it instead of cramming the slides with all the information. A research paper affords many facts and long paragraphs that in detail explain the point of your research. On the other hand, a media assignment affords more visual aids and very small captions on the slides. Because of these differences both were made up in the way they needed to be. You can not add links on a research paper or add videos or any type of visual aids but on power points those visual aids are what is needed to make the audience better comprehend what the topic is about. It allows the audience to grasp the information better.

Remediation of research paper
According to the two readings on remediation there are several ways to re-mediate my research paper. Remediation means blending the old with the new. A way to do that would be to make my research paper into a powerpoint.. I can make the letters large or put them in in different fonts to maybe fit the tone I am trying to portray from my research paper. Also a video would be another great example. Allow your research paper to come alive. The visual of the video allows the audience to understand the information from the research a lot easier than it would be to read it.

Research paper sources
For my research paper I have found a few sources that are going to help me clearly discuss my topic.
My topic and main question is: Cyber bullying and social media: How much does it really affect teenagers?
According to A deafening silence by Charlie Gills social media can ruin a person's life. He wrote about a young girl named Rehtaeh that was raped at the age of 15 and peers of hers took pictures of the incident and not only sent mass media text messages but also posted the pictures of her rape on popular social media sites. After the incident none of her peers let her live it down. This news did not only last a a day or two but for over a week. It was said that they spread the pictures for days to make her relive it. The toll and silence from her friends was too much for her and she later committed suicide.
In The too-much-information age by Melissa Nussbaum it points out different situations to show how big social media really is in teens lives. In one case a college professor learned that her students had first learned about sex through social media. They were exposed to pornography on these sites before they even actually learned about it at school. It has become so difficult to monitor what kids look at when they are on their smartphones or laptops. Because of social media teens are more prone to cyber bulling. Nowadays certain social media sites can make you anonymous which gives people more of a power to cyber bully others.
In Bullying on the pixel playground: Investigating risk factors of cyberbullying... In this text we learn that cyber bullying is a growing problem and it is due to the major impact that social media is in the lives of teens. Not only do they get bullied in school but kids are now able to be bullied at home when they are just with their family. Social media follows you everywhere you are at and it has only increased the amount of suicides of teens.
